Letter writing guidelines

  • Write in English

  • Print clearly

  • Tell them about the things you like to do.

  • Use encouragement (scripture, positive words, etc.)

  • Avoid talking about material possessions, however don’t be afraid to share about where you live, send pictures of your home, etc. This is an opportunity to teach your sponsor child about what life is like in a different part of the world.

  • If you are referring to sponsorship, please use the word “sponsor” and not “adopt”.

  • Include photos of you and your family, bookmarks, pictures they can color, etc. (anything flat that can fit in a standard business-size envelope).

  • If you include photos, please keep in mind that Zambia is a very modest culture - women wear skirts below the knee or trousers and tops with sleeves, men wear slacks or jeans and t-shirts.

  • Please do not ask about your sponsor child about their personal history, health, or other sensitive information.
